Canada team depleted by absentees
Canadian coach Rick Suggitt
Canada coach Ric Suggitt says events out of his control have stopped him picking his best side against England.

Mike James, Morgan Williams and Rod Snow are out due to club commitments or injury, but Suggitt said he would not use this as an excuse for poor form.

"Because three organisations (Rugby Canada, International Rugby Board and the clubs) can't decide what's good for the game, fans are cheated," he said.

"I don't feel I've been robbed of players but they need to sort it out."

Suggitt chose not to select Williams, who had made himself available for despite a recent injury, but would have liked to have Snow, who also misses out through injury.

Suggitt said James was "tied to club commitment right now", and with those three players missing, the signs do not look good for Canada.

Last week they were hammered 51-6 by Italy, but Suggitt is a positive thinker and insisted he was not trying to make excuses in advance of the England game.

We are trying to be a hard hat and work boots team with a positive attitude.

"That is a battle that is out of my control and I can't fret over it," he said.

"I get the message on the phone and let the union deal with it."

The atmosphere in the Canadian camp has changed since he replaced Australian coach David Clark after the World Cup, but Suggitt insisted he was not envious of other teams' richer resources.

If anything, he said, they should act as an incentive to his players.

"The whole make-up of the team has changed," he said.

"Some guys who didn't buy into the philosophy of what we are trying to do. We are trying to be a hard hat and work boots team with a positive attitude.

"I am not envious of Italy in any stretch of the imagination. They have what they have. That doesn't matter.

"I am glad England has the set-up they have. They have worked long and hard to get. That should be our goal."
