Paterson ruled out of tour
Chris Paterson pushes through the Samoa defence
Full-back Chris Paterson will miss the rest of Scotland's tour of Australasia after fracturing a cheekbone in the 38-3 win over Samoa.

He had kicked 11 points in the match before being taken off just past the hour mark, with what turned out to be a triple fracture of his right cheekbone.

Robbie Kydd suffered a similar injury in the opening game to the tour, against Queensland.

No decision has yet been taken on whether to call a replacement.

Paterson is the fifth player to be ruled out of the tour in seven days, and team doctor James Robson said it was the busiest tour he had ever been on.

In addition to Paterson and Kydd's injuries, Cameron Mather has twisted an ankle, centre Tom Philip ruptured knee ligaments in a freak accident and Euan Murray has failed to recover from a thigh injury.
I was very happy for the guys, you could see them growing in confidence
Scotland coach Matt Williams

Scotland emerged from the potentially tough Samoa game with their biggest-ever win over the islanders - and with their first Test victory since November's World Cup.

"There was a real belief in the system," said coach Matt Williams.

"They defended very well and that was the base for the win. You can't win games, as we have shown in the past, where you leak tries.

"We have been up front and open about that.

"I was really happy with the guys, you could see them growing in confidence. It was a reward for them and faith in the system."

Scotland's tries came from Gordon Ross at the end of the first half, then Ben Hinshelwood, Ally Hogg, Simon Webster and Mike Blair right at the end.

"It's hard to single players out - I thought the centre combination really worked well," said Williams.

"I thought Andy Henderson had his best game for Scotland, both in attack and defence.

"I thought Scott Murray was a real captain and Donnie McFayden did really well. It was a great team effort."
