Dallaglio positive about England
Lawrence Dallaglio
Dallaglio feels England will never be short of talent
Lawrence Dallaglio insists England can still field a strong back row for the Autumn Tests - despite recent retirements and injury problems.

The world champions have been left without a genuine openside after Dallaglio and Neil Back called time on their impressive international careers.

Saracens forward Richard Hill is also out of the frame after knee surgery.

But the Wasps No.8 said: "England will always be strong in the back row. There are guys queuing up for a place."

Dallaglio added: "Let's forget about Hill, Back and Dallaglio and concentrate on who's there.

"If there is an area of slight concern then it's the lack of a genuine openside.

"Having been a genuine openside himself, I know head coach Andy Robinson would favour picking someone who is a seven and nothing else.

"But that's not a luxury every country in the world has.

"If you haven't got a genuine openside then you have to perm things slightly differently and England have enough options to do that."

Whoever is picked to follow in Dallaglio's footsteps has massive boots to fill with the former England skipper earning the reputation as one of the finest forwards of the past decade during his 73-cap career.

Wasps' Joe Worsley and Leicester's Martin Corry are favourites to fill two of the slots while Lewis Moody could figure if he impresses upon his return to first-team action, which looks set to begin on Saturday when the Tigers face Calvisano.

However, Corry's availability rests on the outcome of an RFU disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.

The Leicester star, along with George Chuter, has been cited for alleged foul play during a Zurich Premiership match with Bath on 9 October and a lengthy ban could put his England place at risk.

But whoever comes in as his replacement, Dallaglio says it is crucial the player is given time to settle in.

"Let's not compare one player who has just started his career with three players who have just finished. That's not the way it works," he said.

"I was never compared to Dean Richards, Mike Teague or Peter Winterbottom. I was allowed to get on with my career in the way that I wanted to."
