Springbok lock Geo Cronje was left out of the World Cup squad |
Springbok lock Geo Cronje has been cleared of racism by a South African Rugby Football Union (Sarfu) disciplinary committee investigation. Cronje allegedly refused to share a room with black team-mate Quinton Davids before last year's World Cup.
The Sarfu probe confirmed the findings of an initial inquiry which did not find conclusive proof of racism.
The inquiry also recommended that no action be taken over the controversial 'Kamp Staaldraad' training camp.
The Cronje incident marred South Africa's build-up to the World Cup in Australia where they were knocked out by New Zealand in the quarter-finals.
Coach Rudolf Straeuli remained in charge for the campaign but stood down in December.
Chairman of the Sarfu disciplinary committee Koos Basson said: "Factual evidence contained in the report on the Sarfu investigation into an alleged incident, and statements by Geo Cronje and Quinton Davids confirm that this was not a racial incident.
"The Basson report concludes that there was no factual element of racism present in the swapping of rooms by Springbok players, or otherwise, at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria last year.
"The Sarfu executive committee had indemnified both players against disciplinary steps and Sarfu has had to determine therefore how to finalise the matter and move forward."
