Scarlets coach Gareth Jenkins has moved a step closer to becoming the man to replace Steve Hansen as Wales boss at the end of the Six Nations. Jenkins and Harlequins coach Mark Evans attended second interviews at the Welsh Rugby Union on Wednesday, but the Scarlets man remains firm favourite.
The main sticking point remains the WRU's desire to keep Scott Johnson as assistant - Jenkins wants Nigel Davies.
Johnson could continue as skills coach alongside Davies, or move to Australia.
The WRU are also understood to have ruled out the possibility of employing both Jenkins and Mark Evans because of financial restraints.
Meanwhile, ex-Canada coach Dave Clark has rejected reports that he was on a three-man shortlist for the Wales job alongside Jenkins and Evans.
He told CRN News in Canada that he had applied for the post but was told by the WRU that he did not make "the very short list."
Clark is thought to be pursuing a coaching job in the south of France, where his step-daughter lives.
