Mike Tindall | Position: Inside centre Injury: Ankle ligaments Out for: Up to three months |
The Bath midfielder still hopes to take some part in the Six Nations, after learning he does not need an operation to repair ankle ligaments after all. But after initial fears he had broken his leg in scoring a try during Bath's win at Saracens, Tindall is still facing a long spell on the sidelines.
With intensive physiotherapy he is optimistic of returning to action in nine weeks - possibly in time for England's final Six Nations matches.
Possible replacement: Mike Catt and Stuart Abbott are both candidates if fit, but Clive Woodward could opt to move Will Greenwood inside and include Leicester's Ollie Smith.
Julian White | Position: Tighthead prop Injury: Knee Out for: Eight weeks |
The Leicester tighthead is on crutches after undergoing knee surgery which will almost certainly keep him out of the entire Six Nations campaign.
The injury has plagued White since last February, following England's victory against France, despite playing with it for his club on his return from the World Cup.
"For Julian it's a case of it being a probability rather than a possibility that he'll miss the Six Nations," said Tigers boss Dean Richards.
Possible replacement: With Phil Vickery also currently sidelined, young Bath prop Matt Stevens - who impressed against the New Zealand Barbarians - may see more senior action if he shakes off a minor shoulder problem.
Lewis Moody | Position: Flanker Injury: Foot Out for: Eight weeks |
Moody is still on crutches with a stress fracture of the foot, which has caused him to miss Leicester's past four games. He may need another month before he returns to action, ruling him out of England's opening two matches at least.
"If I can get back into the squad for the last three games of the Six Nations, I'll be more than happy," he said.
Possible replacement: Harlequins flanker Pat Sanderson was called up for the Baa-Baas fixture, while his younger brother Alex (Sale) and Wasps' Paul Volley are other possibles.
Richard Hill | Position: Flanker Injury: Broken nose Out for: Four weeks |
England's most recent captain finds himself nursing a broken nose, courtesy of a stiff-arm challenge from the NZ Barbarians' Troy Flavell. Hill had hoped for an early return to action but instead underwent surgery on New Year's Eve to ensure no possibility of long-term damage.
The Saracens stalwart must wait until the fracture stabilises before he can return, and may only have one club game before the Six Nations kicks off.
Possible replacement: With Lewis Moody missing the first half of the campaign, Joe Worsley and Martin Corry would be likely candidates.
Mike Catt | Position: Inside centre Injury: Back/Hamstring Out for: Three weeks |
Bath do not expect to see Catt back until at least the end of January after a recurrence of a back problem that could even threaten his whole career. The centre was plagued by the injury all last season, despite a special conditioning regime which allowed him to squeak into the World Cup squad.
How quickly he can overcome it this time will have repercussions for club and country.
Possible replacement: A fit Abbott may step into the breach, while Gloucester's in-form Henry Paul could return to contention.
Jonny Wilkinson
 | Position: Fly-half Injury: Shoulder Out for: Three weeks |
England's star turn has suffered no serious damage despite being forced off on his Newcastle return against Northampton. But as the latest in a long line of problems in the neck and shoulder area, it is a continuing cause for concern.
Having just recovered from a fractured facet in his shoulder, Wilkinson hopes his latest spell of inactivity only lasts for a few weeks.
Possible replacement: If Sale's Charlie Hodgson does not recover from a knee injury, Paul Grayson could be the only fit alternative.
Stuart Abbott
 | Position: Centre Injury: Ankle Out for: Two/three weeks |
Abbott has only recently returned from a month out with an ankle injury sustained in England's pre-Christmas match against NZ Barbarians.
But the South African-born centre aggravated the same ankle in his second match back for Wasps against Calvisano in the Heineken Cup.
He is now facing three or four weeks on the sidelines, and is likely to miss England's first two games.
Possible replacement: Henry Paul's recent inspired form for Gloucester could see him earn a recall to the England squad.
Charlie Hodgson | Position: Fly half Injury: Knee Out for: A scan may be needed to determine the extent of the problem |
Sale's Charlie Hodgson aggravated a long-term knee injury and had to be carried off the field during the Heineken Cup clash with Leinster on Sunday.
The 23-year-old first injured his knee during England's Six Nations victory over Italy last March.
Sale coach Jim Mallinder has confirmed that Hodgson may need a scan to discover how serious the problem is.
Possible replacement: With first-choice Jonny Wilkinson struggling, Paul Grayson could be the only fit substitute.
Matt Dawson | Position: Scrum-half Injury: Shoulder Out for: Unknown |
The Northampton scrum-half has suffered a torrid time since his triumphant return from Australia.
He suffered a calf strain in his first domestic game back - Saints' pre-Christmas victory over Leicester.
And after shrugging of that niggle, he picked up a shoulder injury making his comeback in a second team match between Saints and Leicester.
Possible replacement: Kyran Bracken is the obvious contender, but Andy Gomarsall is in good form for Gloucester.
Martin Corry | Position: Flanker/Lock Injury: Hamstring Return imminent |
Another player to suffer an injury on England duty against the New Zealand Barbarians at Twickenham before Christmas.
The hamstring strain he sustained that day ruled Corry out of Leicester's recent league matches against Leeds and Gloucester, and their Heineken Cup loss in Ulster.
Back in the fray Leeds hooker Mark Regan, who missed two games with a foot injury, made his comeback in the Tykes' defeat at Saracens on New Year's Day.
Wasps number eight Lawrence Dallaglio made a try-scoring return against Sale Sharks after recovering from a knee injury.
Wing Ben Cohen, after missing Northampton's defeat at Newcastle with a groin strain, returned to action against London Irish.
Leicester hooker Dorian West made a quicker-than-expected recovery from knee surgery to return in the Tigers' Heineken Cup defeat in Ulster.
Gloucester's Heineken Cup trip to Munster saw Phil Vickery make his return from bruised ribs, the tighthead prop coming off the bench.
And wing Iain Balshaw, who picked up a calf injury in December, returned for Bath in their Parker Pen Challenge Cup quarter-final tie against Beziers.
