| Monday, 11 November, 2002, 19:37 GMT Castaignede fit for France ![]() Castaignede made a winning return to Test rugby France centre Thomas Castaignede will be ready to take on New Zealand on Saturday despite picking up a thigh injury in the win over South Africa. All the French players injured in Saturday's 30-10 victory have been declared fit for next weekend's Test against the All Blacks. "Thomas had his thigh badly bruised but doctors gave him the green light," said team spokesman Lionel Rossigneux. Fly-half Francois Gelez, who scored 17 points and suffered a slight ankle-injury in Marseille, will also be able to play. "He passed X-rays and a scan on Monday morning," Rossigneux said. Lock Olivier Brouzet was also rested from Monday's training session due to back pain but he later received the go-ahead from team doctor Thierry Hermerel.
New Zealand fly-half Carlos Spencer will miss Saturday's Test because of a shoulder injury. Spencer was replaced by regular fly-half Andrew Mehrtens at half-time during the 31-28 defeat to England at Twickenham on Saturday. The All Blacks will also have to do without centre Keith Lowen, who sustained a groin injury, and coach John Mitchell has called up Paul Steinmetz. Versatile Steinmetz, who arrived in France on Monday, can play both in the fly-half position or in the centre. Mitchell plans to announce the team for the Stade de France clash on Tuesday, with Mehrtens almost certain to start. | Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top International stories now: Links to more International stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
