Scots know they must improve
Scotland debutant Stuart Moffat
Stuart Moffat made a scoring debut for Scotland
Scotland captain Bryan Redpath admitted the comfortable winning margin against Romania could not disguise weaknesses in his side.

The Scots, who have been dealt a blow with the news that Mattie Stewart will be out until the New Year after picking up a serious rib injury, ran in five tries against a rugged and determined Romania.

But it could have been many more but for slackness in attack.

Redpath recognised that a similar performance against South Africa would not go unpunished.

"We didn't control the ball well and the distribution and execution of the ball wasn't very good," he acknowledged.

We have just got to get better at what we are trying to do

Scotland coach
"It was disappointing from that aspect but, credit to Romania, they put us under a bit of pressure and were hard to break down.

"We didn't make good use of the ball we had.

"It just got a little bit ragged and we did not get any rhythm.

"It will be a huge test next week against South Africa and we will have to work hard.

"We should enjoy the victory but be aware of how it came about."

Scotland coach Ian McGeechan was a little more satisfied with the performance, but he was left rueing the injury to Stewart, who had just come off the bench.

The Northampton tight-head, a likely starter for next weekend's tussle with the Springboks, sustained ripped cartilage when a scrum collapsed.

"It is a big blow for Mattie and ourselves," said McGeechan.

"It is always a setback when one of your experienced players is injured."

Of the game, McGeechan said: "I was quite pleased for a first outing.

"We controlled most of the game and we are quite pleased with five tries.

"But there is always plenty to work on but we got control of the game.

"The forwards kept it tight against a big pack and we have another big pack to face next week against South Africa.

"We have just got to get better at what we are trying to do."
