O'Sullivan happy with victory
Eddie O'Sullivan's Ireland team defeated Russia 35-3
Coach Eddie O'Sullivan unhappy with the match ball
Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan was both a relieved and happy man after his side had successfully negotiated the first half of their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The 35-3 victory over Russia in Krasnoyarsk was as hard-earned as it was satisfactory following the trials and tributions of travelling to Siberia.

''I'm very happy with the result. It's was not a bad one considering the circumstances,'' said O'Sullivan.

''We didn't give up any tries, scored four ourselves, and 35 points and that was not bad since it was a very tough game.

I guess the key is that we won, and overall it was a balanced performance
Eddie O'Sullivan

''They are as big an international side that I have seen, and they were very, very physical.

''We were very tired out there from the start. That's not surprising as we came half-way around the globe to be here.

''Also the Russians threw us a bit of a curve ball on Friday, when they produced a new ball.

''We would normally use the Gilbert one, and had expected that would be the match ball. But they produced a Summit ball, and there is no doubt it effected our line-out.

''Due to us not getting our own line-out early in the match, Russia were very much in it.

''But they were really fired up in front of their own crowd, and they did make it difficult for us. It was a tough day at the office.

''I guess the key is that we won. Overall it was a balanced performance, if not a great one.

''The emphasis was to play the game in their half and slowing the game down to our own pace, and grinding out the scores.''

O'Sullivan now has to get his troops turned around for Georgia next week in Dublin.

''Like Russia, Georgia, will be big and physical,'' said O'Sullivan.

''It's not going to be an easy ride for us. We have to get on a plane again and travel half-way back around the globe.

''So we have a huge problem next week in combating fatigue and jet lag as well as a number of bumps and bruises.

''But hopefully we will back and on our toes for next Saturday.''
