Lomu back in black
Jonah Lomu charges over for a try against Italy
Lomu has been lacking sharpness this season
Powerhouse wing Jonah Lomu has been recalled to the New Zealand squad for Saturday's Tri-Nations match with South Africa.

He was left out of the squad for the victory against Australia on Saturday, but is back in the Test 22 after undergoing a physical fitness check.

Tana Umaga, who was also left out for the Australia match, returns after playing a game for his Petone club at the weekend.

They replace Daryl Gibson and Ben Blair, while lock Royce Willis drops out as Norm Maxwell reclaims his place after missing the match against Australia because of a strained hamstring.

Injured trio

Loose forwards Taine Randell (calf) and Marty Holah (knee), and full-back Leon MacDonald (concussion), remain sidelined with injuries.

New Zealand will name their team on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Lock Norm Maxwell has been ruled out of Saturday's game because of a persistent hamstring injury.

Waikato's Royce Willis comes into the squad in place of Maxwell.

He also replaced Maxwell for last week's Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia in Christchurch won by the All Blacks 12-6.

South Africa, who are based in Brisbane for the team's matches against New Zealand and Australia, will fly into Wellington on Thursday.

They will return to Brisbane on Sunday to prepare for the Wallabies match there on 27 July.

New Zealand: Christian Cullen, Doug Howlett, Caleb Ralph, Jonah Lomu, Mark Robinson, Tana Umaga, Aaron Mauger, Andrew Mehrtens, Justin Marshall, Byron Kelleher, Scott Robertson, Richard McCaw, Sam Broomhall, Reuben Thorne (capt), Simon Maling, Royce Willis, Chris Jack, Greg Somerville, Dave Hewett, Mark Hammett, Joe McDonnell, Tom Willis.
