Pumas question venue choice
Argentine captain Agustin Pichot
Pichot has given a thumbs down to the Test venue
Argentina have expressed disappointment with the venue chosen for their first Test against South Africa, saying they would have preferred a better known stadium.

Captain Agustin Pichot said he was unhappy with the choice of Pam Brink Stadium in Springs as the arena for Saturday's showdown with the Springboks.

SA Rugby clearly have their reasons for taking the games there. Perhaps they want to develop rugby in the region.

"As a player on tour you want to play at the best stadiums. After all, we have watched them on television and the grounds are treated with respect worldwide," Pichot told Johannesburg daily The Star.

Pam Brink has less than half the capacity of Ellis Park in Johannesburg, seating about 30,000 spectators. It is only the second time in the stadium's history that a Test will be played there.

The last time the Springboks lost 6-8 to France, in 1964.

"SA Rugby clearly have their reasons for taking the games there. Perhaps they want to develop rugby in the region. Anyway it is not our business, but we will do our best there," Pichot added.

The touring team's second concern was the stadium's altitude about 3700 feet above sea level.

Coach Marcelo Loffreda said Argentine rugby authorities had asked that the game be played at sea level because of the short space of time between arrival and the match.

"We asked the hosts to have the Test in a coastal city like Cape Town. But we rest with their decision," Loffeda said.

"They must have had good reasons why they did it and now we will have to make the best of a bad situation."

The Pumas will also play one game against a South Africa A squad in Witbank, in eastern Mpumalanga province, on Wednesday.
