McBain's Reds reign ends

Queensland have dispensed with the services of coach Mark McBain after the Reds failed to make it to the Super 12 semi-finals.

Queensland chief executive Jeff Miller said on Monday the Reds were on the look-out for a new coach after opting not to renew McBain's contract.

"The Reds are going through a period of change with the retirement of a number of players," Miller said.

"And that makes it vital we have the right person to take the team forward."

McBain has been with the Reds since taking over from John Connolly in 2000.

He led the side to the Super 12 semi-finals in his first season, but despite winning more games and points this season the side narrowly missed the play-offs, finishing in fifth place.
