London Irish bounced back from last week's defeat against Newport to record a comprehensive victory over the Black and Ambers.

Barry Everitt had 22 points as Irish ran in five tries to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Heineken Cup quarter-finals alive.

Irish must now beat Edinburgh and Toulouse, the Pool Five runaway leaders, in their final two games as well as further improving their try count.

Everitt set them on the right track with an early penalty and worse was to follow for Newport when second row Simon Raiwalui was sin-binned for 10 minutes after a high and late tackle on full-back Michael Horak.

Irish capitalised from the resulting penalty as Everitt spotted a gap to waltz through the defence for a try which he converted himself.

The Irish pack piled on the pressure and it eventually paid dividends as winger Justin Bishop raced over in the corner.

Everitt missed the conversion but his side were still 21-0 ahead by half-time after he landed a couple of penalties.

It was more of the same in the second half when player-coach Brendan Venter stretched the lead with another try which Everitt converted.

Irish took the opportunity to introduce 33-year-old replacement Rob Hardwick to celebrate his 100th appearance for the club in style.

Hardwick, who had marked the occasion by leading the side out with his sons Tom, Robin and Will, replaced Simon Halford in the front row.

Irish were forced to play for 10 minutes without flanker Kieron Dawson who was sin-binned for repeatedly killing the ball.

Although Newport tried to challenge, the home side were just too strong with Michael Horak and replacement Mark Mapletoft adding to the tally.

Newport finally got on the scoresheet when centre Jason Jones-Hughes touched down but Jason Strange missed the easy conversion.
