Esher coach Mike Schmid has bolstered his squad with five new signings for the new Championship campaign.

Back row forward Chris Goodman joins from Bedford, lock Ian Kench comes in from Nottingham and hooker Stuart Mackie makes the move from Nice.

Ex-Wasps and England Under-20s fly-half Mark Atkinson and Doncaster back Andy Wright have also signed deals.

Schmid said: "We're really pleased with the signings and feel we have added some real quality in key positions."

Schmid says there may be more signings before the start of the season.

"The club were keen to retain the core of the squad who finished ninth in the Championship last season yet maintain and improve the quality of it.

"We have lost a couple of players to London Welsh and they had to be replaced but we also felt we needed to add more size and physicality up front," Schmid added.
