Worcester coach Hill aims to stay calm for final

Richard Hill
Hill has seen his side lose just one Championship game this season.

Worcester Warriors head coach Richard Hill says he will try to stay calm on the touchline when his team play the first leg of the Championship final.

Worcester travel to Cornish Pirates on Wednesday and Hill says it is important not to get caught up in the occasion.

"You learn to control your emotions when you get a bit older," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"I have mellowed over the years, but you get excited - I was excited before the semi-final."

Hill's predecessors at Sixways, John Brain and Mike Ruddock, both sat in the stands to watch games but Hill say he feels he needs to be close to the action.

"I think it's important to be on the touchline to show a bit of passion, and to show the supporters you are there," he said.

"When you are up in the stand, you can't always get a decent feel for it and look in the players eyes.

"When you finish playing you get very emotional about the game - you think bouncing up and down the touchline shouting and screaming makes a difference.

"You hear about the number of supporters that are going to be at the games, at Penzance and then back here at Sixways, and they are fantastic crowds to play in front of."

There will be full commentary on Cornish Pirates vs. Worcester Warriors on Wednesday, 11 May, on BBC Hereford and Worcester, on air and online at bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester.
