Prop Thompson scored Bristol's crucial second-half try at Melrose |
Bristol will face Ayr at home in the last eight of the British & Irish Cup after beating Melrose 29-26 away. The visitors led 22-7 at half-time with tries from Anthony Elliott, Dan Montagu and George Watkins but were pegged back before Wayne Thompson bagged a fourth. Boss Paul Hull told BBC Bristol: "We've used this competition to help make us a better team and give us momentum. "That started away at Esher, we've never looked back since and we'll relish the quarter-final at home." The Scottish outfit finished second in their pool behind Pontypridd and beat Doncaster 23-17 to set up Sunday's test at the Memorial Stadium.
