Monye's only appearance this season was in Harlequins opening draw with Wasps |
England wing Ugo Monye will be out of action for up to 12 weeks after undergoing surgery on his big toe. The 27-year-old Harlequins player, who has been a member of the England Saxons squad this season, underwent a "successful" operation on Friday. "The extent and duration of the injury will be known more clearly after further consultation with the surgeon," a Quins statement added. The injury is set to keep Monye out of England's autumn internationals. Monye has won 13 England caps and played in the first and third Tests during last year's British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa, scoring a try in the third Test win at Ellis Park, Johannesburg. He played in Harlequins' opening 29-29 Premiership draw with Wasps, but has not played in either of their subsequent defeats - 20-16 at home to Northampton and 21-17 at Sale. However, he is now likely to miss a large portion of Harlequins' season as well England's November fixtures against New Zealand, Australia, Samoa and South Africa.
