Coventry owner Andrew Green apologises for cash woes

Coventry RFC

Coventry owner Andrew Green has apologised for failing to secure the club's financial future.

Cov went into administration last week after Green had earlier announced that he had put the company into creditor voluntary liquidation.

He told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "The problems were too big for me to overcome and I failed. I got beat. As a sportsman it is not easy to say that.

"I apologise to the city and to the supporters but I did try my best."

He added: "I've kept quiet about a lot of things over a lot of time because I've had to.

"But the bottom line is I tried my best. I really did try to make Coventry Rugby Club work.

"I tried to solve the problems. I tried to make it all come together and I worked very hard with some decent people that cared about the rugby club."

Birmingham-based Begbies Traynor have moved into Butts Park Arena as they try to find new buyers for the 135-year-old club.
