Nottingham's brave bid to finish as runners-up in National One ultimately ended in failure on Saturday despite a fine 27-24 bonus-point win at Coventry.

Tries from Luke Sheriff, Tim Molenaar, Alex Dodge, a penalty try and a late penalty from Matt Smith sealed the win.

But Exeter Chiefs scored an injury-time try in their 25-17 win over Doncaster to grab a bonus-point win of their own.

Both sides finished level on points but Exeter finished second as they won one more game than the Green and Whites.
