Delaney says Sunday's game will define Nottingham's season (Getty Images) |
Nottingham can take a huge step towards clinching second spot in National One when they entertain Exeter Chiefs at Meadow Lane on Sunday. Victory over the Chiefs, who are four point above Nottingham, is likely to be decisive in deciding who finishes runners-up to champions Northampton. Nottingham make one change, with Alex Loney replacing Joe Duffey at hooker. "This game will ultimately decide our league position for the season," said director of rugby Glenn Delaney. "To finish runners-up would be a fantastic achievement for the lads." The Green and Whites also have the added incentive of avenging their EDF Energy National Trophy cup defeat at Exeter a couple of weeks ago. Captain Craig Hammond added: "This is a massive game, giving us the chance to compete against one of the top teams in the league. "We'll have to be at our best to beat them and hopefully home advantage will pay. The fans really can be the extra man and if there's a good turnout at Meadow Lane they can cheer us to victory. "Exeter's team is full of good players but so is ours and I can't wait to lead the lads out." This will be Nottingham's last home game of the season, with away trips to Esher and Coventry completing their campaign.
