London Irish (8) 16 Tries: Hewat, Tagicakibau Pens: Hickey 2 Wasps (9) 22 Try: Flutey Con: Walder Pens: Walder 5
Dave Walder's superb goal-kicking display guided Wasps to victory in front of a record 23,709 crowd for a Premiership match on a club ground. Walder scored 17 points, landing five penalties and a conversion, and came up with a terrific defence-splitting run for Riki Flutey's 47th-minute try. Full-back Peter Hewat's second-minute try gave Irish the lead, but Wilder ensured Wasps were ahead at the break. Sailosi Tagicakibau then went over for Irish, but Wasps held on for the win.
London Irish forwards coach Toby Booth: "When you manufacture opportunities you have to be clinical. "We weren't on occasions and we paid the price. Both sides were desperate for elevation up the table and it was always going to be a tight game. "Then it's all about execution. Against good sides you only get two or three opportunities a game and you have to really cash in. I don't think we did." Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan: "It's another big club win and massively satisfying. It was hard work and a good forward performance. "Dave Walder has found a new level in his game and a consistency I don't think he's ever had before. "He's kicked every available point for us in the last two games and that, when you are fighting to be in winning positions, is really important."
