The former chairman of Penzance and Newlyn RFC Robin Turner has thrown his hat into the ring to become Cornish Pirates' new president. It follows Dickie Evans' resignation on Monday after opposition to plans to share a stadium with Truro City FC.
Turner told BBC Radio Cornwall he still wants the joint stadium to go ahead.
"I'm very keen to pursue all angles that will bring a stadium to Cornwall and enable the possibility of Premiership rugby."
Turner resigned from his role at Penzance and Newlyn on Monday night, telling the club's management he wanted to stand for election as Pirates supremo.
Penzance and Newlyn is the administrative basis of the rugby club, whose first team play as the Pirates.
An Extraordinary General Meeting is expected and it is expected there will be changes to the management structure, as well as new faces at the top.
Members will also be able to have their say on the issues that provoked the negativity that drove Evans to quit - namely, the proposals to share a new stadium with Truro and the proposed redevelopment of the Mennaye Field in Penzance.
