Newcastle Falcons slipped to a second successive defeat after an awful start.
Shaun Berne kicked an penalty and scored under the posts to put Bath 10-0 up within the opening six minutes.
Michael Claassens extended Bath's lead with a second try, before Tom May touched down for Newcastle, only for the visitors to then run away with it.
Ian Davey barged over, Michael Stephenson scored a bonus-point try and Matt Banahan rumbled over, before Joe Shaw hit back with a Newcastle try.
Newcastle director of rugby John Fletcher:
"Our defence was appalling. We were all over the place defensively and it was a nightmare.
"There's not a lot you can say to the players, they know. Bath are a good side but we did make it far too easy for them.
"It was a bad day, we started badly and
didn't improve."
Bath coach Steve Meehan:
"When you settle for a 3-0 win, but we scored five tries and
some of them were crackers.
"We're very happy and we're on the right track and these guys have been
working hard for the last 16 months.
"Newcastle have runners who can damage you, but I knew if we kept on playing as we did in the first half then we would be OK."
