Leicester held off a second-half fightback from bottom side Worcester to keep up their unbeaten home record.

Tigers led 23-0 at the interval, thanks to tries from Jordan Crane, Brett Deacon and Tom Varndell.

The home side secured a bonus point just after the break when Martin Castrogiovanni claimed his first try for the club.

Worcester went over for three late tries but Dan Hipkiss and Shane Jennings secured the win for Leicester.

With the game slipping away from them, thanks to Leicester's first-half onslaught, Worcester finally registered their first point in the 50th minute through a Chris Horseman try with Shane Drahm adding the conversion.

The visitors were given further hope three minutes later when Gavin Hickie was yellow carded for killing the ball.

They took advantage with Simon Whatling crossing for a try in the 63rd minute to trim the deficit. Hipkiss put the game beyond the visitors with Leicester's fifth try in the 73th minute.

Lee Best grabbed a third try for Worcester three minutes later and Drahm converted but Jennings had the final word for Leicester in the last minute.

  • Leicester head coach Pat Howard: "We keep talking about the depth of this club and this is the time of the season that shows it.

"We have some very good players who haven't been playing but we are not getting carried away by this result - Worcester are having a tough time.

"The fact they did not give up when they were 30-0 down was testament to them."

  • Worcester head coach John Brain: ""It was a disappointing day especially the last 35 minutes of the first half. We totally lost it.

"But we have to give credit to Leicester - they played very well and they capitalised on their possession.

"We played better in the second half. We were more clinical and put Leicester under pressure, but we have to do that consistently throughout games."
