Flanker James Forrester scored his third try in as many games to maintain Gloucester's unbeaten start to the Guinness Premiership season.
Things looked good for Northampton when David Quinlan scored an early try, but Gloucester's pack soon took charge.
Forrester's score helped the home side to a narrow interval lead before they ran away with it in the second half.
Ludovic Mercier's boot added to the lead before Andy Hazell and Jack Adams scored tries to round things off.

The tone for a bad day for Northampton was set early on when Bruce Reihana was forced off after just six minutes with a knee injury.
After the game, coach Paul Grayson was pessimistic about his captain's prospects, and Reihana could miss the start of their Heineken Cup campaign next month.
Props Tom Smith and Pat Barnard also came off injured in what was a bad day all round for the Saints.
Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan: "I cannot help but be pleased. We did a great job defending against the Premiership's biggest attacking threat.
"Andy Hazell is one of the those players whereby we are not the same team when he isn't there.
"The players deserve huge credit for what they've done in the past weeks."
Northampton head coach Paul Grayson: "Our line-out ball dried up in the second half, and we couldn't keep a foothold in their territory. We made too many basic errors," he said.
"I thought we were relatively comfortable at half-time, but we ran out of steam.
"It was very stop-start, and we didn't play anything like the rugby we wanted to play. We were well below par."
