Leeds moved off the bottom of the Premiership - for 24 hours at least - as they inflicted a third straight home defeat on a demoralised Gloucester.

The Tykes ensured the relegation battle will go to the wire after first-half tries from Mike Shelley, Chris Bell and Richard Parks put them in command.

James Forrester's try kept Gloucester in touch at half-time at 22-10 down.

But two more Gordon Ross penalties and Gavin Kerr's try gave Leeds a bonus point before Nick Wood's consolation.

It was a display full of determination and desire from the visitors, whose ambition was apparent from the kick-off.

Veteran prop Shelley latched onto a pass from Tom Palmer's well-angled run to score the opening try after 14 minutes.

Ross converted before adding a penalty when Gloucester infringed at the breakdown.

We needed a good performance and to get four tries as well is a dream result
Leeds boss Phil Davies
A missed tackle from Gloucester centre Mark Foster, a late call-up for the injured Terry Fanolua, on Bell saw the Tykes centre power home from 40 yards for the second try.

Fly-half Duncan McRae's well-struck penalty gave the home side a glimmer of light but Leeds went further ahead with a third try.

Flanker Richard Parks bulldozed over from close range after Gloucester had once again handed possession over cheaply.

Forrester raced onto a pass to score in the corner, McRae converting, to limit the interval damage to 22-10.

We are disappointed because we expected better
Gloucester boss Nigel Melville
Ross extended Leeds' advantage with a penalty on the resumption after Seti Kiole paid the price for not releasing at the tackle.

Gloucester lock Adam Eustace was then sent to the sin-bin after infringing at a ruck and Ross made it 28-10 with another penalty after 54 minutes.

The icing on the Tykes' cake arrived when Kerr crashed over for the fourth try with seven minutes left, ensuring the visitors drew level on points with Northampton in the relegation battle with two games left.

Wood's late try did nothing to lift Gloucester's spirits, with their hopes of a play-off place now all but gone.
