Leicester had too much power for a feeble Newcastle side |
Leicester boss John Wells praised his side to the skies after they recorded their record victory in the Premiership with an 83-10 hammering of Newcastle. "I thought at times we were absolutely outstanding, awesome, whatever word you want to use," he said.
Wells was particularly impressed by England hopeful Ollie Smith, who went off at half-time as a precaution because of a tight hamstring.
"He had an outstanding game. I'm sure he would've done himself some good."
Wells also had warm words for another England hopeful, fly-half Andy Goode.
"If you want a guy to kick your goals, Andy showed again, at the moment, that he's the one," said Wells.
"I just don't want him to go over to Ireland and sit on the bench as that just doesn't benefit anybody, so I hope the right decision is made for everybody there - for him and Ollie."
Newcastle director of rugby Rob Andrew was understandably downbeat after watching his young Falcons side taken apart by the Tigers.
"Leicester are a very good side. They have great strength in depth and I wish we had the same," said Andrew.
"We competed well for the first 20 minutes but after that it was men against boys.
"We needed a leader. We have to forget about this game and move on. It's a big learning curve for some of our guys."
