Grewcock backed by coach Robinson
Danny Grewcock and Lawrence Dallaglio scuffle
England coach Andy Robinson has backed Bath lock Danny Grewcock ahead of the Six Nations opener against Wales.

Grewcock has been named in the England team despite being accused of stamping on Lawrence Dallaglio in the club match against Wasps last weekend.

He did not receive a yellow card but disciplinary officials may feel the incident warrants further inspection and he could miss Saturday's Test.

"I want him to play his normal game and expect him to do that," said Robinson.

"There has been no word about him being cited. I haven't seen the incident but I am not expecting him to be cited."

Grewcock's position is expected to be clarified on Wednesday.

The Bath star would not expand on the issue when asked about the Dallaglio incident and is instead focusing on the Wales match.

"I am there to play rugby, to enjoy my rugby, and that is what I will be doing on Saturday," said Grewcock.

"It's going to be a fantastic opportunity against a talented Welsh team, and all the England players are going to have to be on top of their game.

"Second-row is an area where they could perhaps have picked two of say five or six guys, and it wouldn't have really weakened the team too much."

The incident happened in the first half as Grewcock and Dallaglio got up from a tackle.

Grewcock was suspended for six weeks after being cited for a stamping incident on England's tour to New Zealand last summer.

And he missed the trip to Australia and New Zealand the previous year after being sent off for punching England team-mate Dallaglio in a club game.
