Simpson-Daniel has endured a miserable run of illness and injury |
James Simpson-Daniel will miss Gloucester's Powergen Cup quarter-final against Bristol to continue his rehabilitation from shoulder surgery. The 22-year-old, who had an operation over Christmas, returned against Stade Francais on Sunday.
But after a meeting with Gloucester boss Nigel Melville and England coach Andy Robinson, Simpson-Daniel has decided to miss Saturday's game.
"I want to make it clear that this is not a set-back," said Simpson-Daniel.
"It's disappointing to miss the game, but I've just got some more rehabilitation work to do.
"Someone else will take my place against Bristol, and over the next few days I've got to get into that rehab work and get back playing.
"I've said to Nigel I want to be back playing and that means if everything goes well this week, I can target the Worcester game (on 29 January) for a return."
Simpson-Daniel injured his shoulder during Gloucester's Heineken Cup match against Cardiff Blues on 4 December.
