Richard Haughton's late try helped Saracens to a share of the points against London rivals Harlequins in the Zurich Premiership on Sunday.
In a tight first half the hosts scored the only points after 12 minutes when Glen Jackson landed a penalty.
After the break Harlequins took the lead through a Gavin Duffy try and Jeremy Staunton's drop goal.
England Sevens star Haughton then levelled the scores but Jackson's conversion bounced off the crossbar.
The game was littered with mistakes, befitting both side's troubled seasons, with the first half particularly poor.
Saracens were on top for long spells and managed to force a couple of penalty chances, with former Waikato fly-half Jackson landing the second to edge Sarries ahead.
Quins took the lead when Jeremy Staunton's cut-out pass found Duffy, who weaved through some soft defending on a 30 metre burst to the line.
Ten minutes later Staunton clipped over his drop goal before Saracens produced their best spell of the game.
First they pulled Harlequins apart on the left, with Kevin Sorrell going close, before the ball was moved right.
Thomas Castaignede's off-load created the opening for Nick Lloyd and he put the lightning-quick Haughton into the corner.
Jackson's conversion attempt bounced away off the bar as the game ended in deadlock.
Harlequins boss Mark Evans was the happier of the two coaches with the draw and two more points in the fight against relegation.
"I'm not sure we played well but there were extenuating circumstances in the first half," said Evans, who had to replace hooker Ace Tiatia after a blow to the head.
"We won a lot of ball in the second half and we looked half decent.
"I'm not saying it was perfect but we've taken two points away from home. I think we'll be happier than them."
Saracens coach Steve Diamond was left to rue his side's inability to turn their first-half domination into points.
"I'm not happy, although two points is better than nothing," said Diamond, in charge for his first Zurich Premiership game after replacing Rod Kafer as coach earlier in December.
"We had enough ball in the first half and it's very frustrating.
"Unfortunately for us Harlequins turned up after half-time and 8-8 was probably a fair result."
