Iain Balshaw made his long-awaited return from injury as Leeds moved further clear of the foot of the table.

There were four tries in the first 18 minutes, with Tom Biggs and John Dunbar crossing for Leeds, and Ben Hinshelwood and Thomas Lombard for Worcester.

The boot of Gordon Ross then put Leeds in control and Balshaw provided an entertaining cameo when he came on.

A late converted try from replacement winger Sione Kepu gained spirited Worcester a deserved bonus point.

Leeds boss Phil Davies praised his side's fighting qualities as they sealed a first win since last December.

He said: "I need a brandy after that one - obviously I'm pleased to get a result.

At times we lost a bit of composure but that's down to over enthusiasm, which I prefer to no enthusiasm
Worcester boss Andy Keast

"Towards the end of the game it was just a sign of a team needing a little bit more belief and a bit more confidence to close games out.

"Just for shear tenacity and determination I thought the players were fantastic."

Worcester chief Andy Keast was frustrated as his side were disallowed a try in the first half.

Hooker Ben Daly's try was ruled out by referee Ashley Rowden and Keast said: "We always say small margins win games. At least we fought to the death.

"All the players are saying it was a clear try, but you've got to take the decision of the officials.

"At times we lost a bit of composure but that's down to over enthusiasm, which I prefer to no enthusiasm."
