Kidney's Ireland contract expires in June |
Ireland assistant coach Declan Kidney has remained tight-lipped over reports he is favourite to succeed Dean Richards as Leicester's rugby director. The former Munster coach is believed to be on the Tigers three-man short-list.
Kidney has been offered a role as Ireland's Age Group Performance Manager but is known to be keen to stay in senior coaching.
"I haven't commented on the situation from day one and I don't want to start now," he told BBC Sport.
Kidney, who guided Munster to two Heineken Cup finals between 1999 and 2002, is assistant to Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan.
But amid reports that relations between the two have become strained, Kidney has not had his contract, which expires in June, renewed by the Irish Rugby Union.
Ireland have a two-Test tour of South Africa in June, after which Kidney will be free of his contractual obligations.
Ex-Leicester player Pat Howard, currently player-coach of French side Montferrand, is another contender for the job.
Wales assistant coach Scott Johnson is another thought to be on the Tigers short-list, although may yet stay on in Mike Ruddock's new regime.
The Tigers expect to announce their new director of rugby by the end of next week.
