Quins see off Shoguns
Harlequins fly-half Paul Burke
Burke kicked four penalties for Harlequins
Harlequins 26-17 Bristol

Harlequins survived a fierce Bristol fightback at The Stoop to record their sixth successive home Zurich Premiership victory.

The Shoguns came close but saw their hard work undone by a disastrous late error of judgement by former Quins winger Brendon Daniel.

I am pleased but I'm still very unhappy that we created a number of chances and only scored once

Quins boss Mark Evans

But it was a deserved victory for the home side, who opened the scoring when Paul Burke booted an early penalty.

They then paid for a costly wayward pass by England centre Will Greenwood when David Rees picked up and charged 70 metres to score.

Quins reasserted their authority with fly-half Burke converting another penalty before setting up replacement Ben Gollings to score.

Felipe Contepomi's kick was interrupted by Greenwood and Burke picked up and charged upfield before passing inside to Gollings.

Burke converted to give Harlequins a 13-5 lead at the break.

But Bristol applied immediate pressure after the break, testing Harlequins' defence to the maximum.

We stuffed ourselves in the first half through silly mistakes - Quins outplayed us in the set pieces

Peter Thorburn

Their reward came when Daryl Gibson muscled his way over the try-line, and this time Contepomi converted.

Burke created a four-point cushion with a third penalty but Bristol bounced back again with Rees' second try.

But it was a howler by Bristol's Daniel which handed Quins the win.

Attacking in Bristol's 22, Greenwood chipped the ball ahead and the chasing Daniel looked like he had done enough to regain possession.

But the winger amazingly missed the ball and a waiting Greenwood pounced on it. Burke duly converted to seal victory.
