Shelford signs brother for Sarries
Saracens head coach Wayne Shelford
Shelford had no qualms about recruiting his brother
Saracens head coach Wayne Shelford has made it a family affair at Vicarage Road by recruiting his younger brother Darrel as assistant coach.

Shelford junior has joined the Watford-based club on a three-year contract from rugby league's Bradford Bulls.

Darrel, 40, helped guide the Bulls to a Challenge Cup victory and two Super League Grand Final wins.

Wayne, who arrived at Saracens at the end of last season, was instrumental in prising his brother away from the 13-a-side code.

"When we decided to look for an assistant coach I naturally thought of him - not because he's related, but because of his track record," Shelford said.

"I know how highly the Bulls' coach (Brian Noble) thinks of Darrel and how sorry he was to see him go."

Darrel Shelford has been plying his trade in the UK since 1990 after switching from union to league.

"It was a hard decision to leave a club like Bradford, but I felt it was time for a new challenge," said Darrel.

"I think both Wayne and I can learn a great deal from each other."
