Nottingham eager to build on bumper Munster attendance

Nottingham Rugby Club

Nottingham chief executive Simon Beatham says the club must regularly attract crowds in excess of 2,500 if they want to play in the top flight.

More than 3,000 saw Friday's British and Irish Cup game against Munster.

Beatham told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We aspire to be in the Premiership and to do that we need to be getting crowds of more than 2500 on a regular basis.

"Getting more than 3000 [3,189] was a huge step towards that and was probably worth four times our average gate."

Nottingham's average gate for Championship fixtures at Meadow Lane is just over the 1,600 mark. This season's top league attendance saw 2,349 for the match with Plymouth Albion in September while only 1,022 saw the fixture against London Welsh in August.
