Jake Abbott signs new two-year Worcester Warriors deal
Abbott was ruled out of action for the season back in October
Worcester Warriors back row Jake Abbott has signed a new two-year contract with the Championship leaders.
The 22-year-old England Sevens player, who has been at Sixways since the age of six, is currently out of action with a serious knee injury.
Worcester head coach Richard Hill said: "It is fantastic news that Jake has signed a two-year deal and we can look forward to seeing him back in action.
"It was a bitter blow to lose Jake to injury as he was a star for us."
Since first breaking into the team in 2008, Abbott has made 20 appearances for Warriors in which he has scored seven tries.
He turned down the chance to compete for a place in the England Sevens squad for the Commonwealth Games in order to focus on his Warriors career.
Abbott says it has clearly been a frustrating season for him but he is pleased by the way in which his recovery from surgery is progressing.
"I am in my ninth week post operation and will be running in about three weeks now so it is going fantastically well," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"I am about two weeks ahead of schedule with light squats and lots of balance.
My focus is to push on for pre-season and to be the fittest and the best

"I am doing about two hours per day of rehab and did my first fitness session yesterday which was horrible," he added.
While his recovery is clearly going well, Abbott has ruled out a surprise return to the Warriors squad for the Championship play-offs.
"It's more of a focus to get myself fighting fit for day one of pre-season," he said.
"Personally I would want to be playing in the play-offs but bringing in a player who has been out for six months for a semi-final or a final of the play-offs would be risky.
"My focus is to push on for pre-season and to be the fittest and the best."
