Injured Warriors captain Pennell still important - Hill

Worcester Warriors captain Chris Pennell has been assured he still has an important role to play in the side's Championship campaign.

The new skipper had surgery after dislocating his ankle in pre-season and could be out of action until March.

Warriors head coach Richard Hill told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "I'll keep in close communication with him.

"He's in good spirits and I will make sure he's involved in team selection and knows exactly what we're doing."

He added: "He has shown great character and is desperate to come to the first match of the Championship season against Birmingham-Solihull, so we're hoping he can get the all clear to watch the game at Sixways.

"We just want to see Chris back as soon as possible. It was a huge blow to us all," said Hill.

"He's such a lovely man and was leading the side really well having been made captain. This has set us back and we feel very sorry for him."
