Warwickshire began their County Championship Plate campaign with a 24-8 victory over Eastern Counties at the Butts Park Arena. Huw Thomas scored 11 points with his boot, six coming from penalties either side of the visitors' early try. Peter Clifford kicked a penalty to edge the visitors ahead before Brook Davis crossed to put Warwickshire in control. After Jack Green's drop-goal and another kick from Thomas, Todd Fremantle scored a late converted try. Warwickshire's head coach Pete Glackin praised the whole team and gave special praise to his pack. Glackin told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "The forwards were outstanding, they wanted the game. "We slipped off tackles in midfield once or twice and they were there to pick up the pieces. "It's probably been one of the best preparations that we've had and all the boys have bought into it. "They've put the work in and responded to the coaching team. "We knew they were going to come and be dangerous so it was just about concentration more than anything else."
