Fox, Powell and Legge have been key players for Cambridge this season |
Cambridge back row trio Darren Fox, Danny Legge and Tom Powell all played in England Counties' 29-25 defeat of the AIB Ireland Club XV. All three players were making their debuts for the Counties side and played the full 80 minutes. Club captain Fox told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We made hard work of it but we dogged it out. "We're quite used to that, coming from Cambridge, but it was a big honour to be playing with two of our boys." The match took place at Stourton Park, the home of Stourbridge. England were 26-3 up at half-time and survived a ferocious Irish fight-back in the second period to edge the game. Powell gathered the ball safely in his own 22 with virtually the last play of the match to keep the Irish out. Having returned from England Sevens duty, he was delighted with the result. "It's a massive honour to play for your country at any level, but especially alongside these boys," Powell said.
