Coach Declan Kidney and forward Paul O'Connell dedicated Ireland's win over England to prop John Hayes, who won his 100th cap in the 20-16 Twickenham win.

"John had a tough day but he enjoyed it and it was a good day for him. The boys helped to make it that," said Kidney.

"The players were motivated to make it a special day for John and his family and we will enjoy the celebrations with him," added Lions skipper O'Connell.

"It was great to come to Twickenham and win," added the Irish second row.

Ireland led for much of a game played in terrible conditions, but were trailing 16-13 until Tommy Bowe burst through to score his second try and secure the triumph.

The victory ended England's unbeaten record in the 2010 Six Nations and ensured Ireland bounced back to winning ways following their defeat in France.

Kidney said that his team had "just stuck at it despite not having the ball for a lot of the time".

"You expect to win if you score three tries away from home but our tackle count had to be quite high.

"We were fairly disciplined for most of the game, although we gave them a few penalties, and any time you win away from home it's a good day, especially at Twickenham.

"We picked off our scores, which we didn't do in Paris - and that is the difference.

"England did some good work at the sides of the rucks and mauls but the boys stayed calm and worked into position very well.

"Brian (O'Driscoll) took a bit of a bang on the head and it just stuns you for a while, but he was up celebrating with the rest of the boys at the end."

O'Connell agreed that "it was great to come to Twickenham and win - something many other Irish teams have not done".

"We never gave up and even though we fell behind, we came back to score a great try.

"England are an incredibly physical team and we knew we had to be up for it.

"It was not a great day for running rugby but we had some great turnovers at the breakdown.

"Our fly-halves kicked well and kept putting them under pressure and it was wonderful to bounce back after the disappointment of the defeat in Paris."
