Makeshift Malvern get hammering at Luton

Dave Robins
Robins is set to retire at the end of the season

Malvern director of rugby David Robins defended his makeshift side as they were hammered 81-13 by Luton.

Their half-back pairing had not even been able to train together and they trailed within two minutes after kicking possession away.

Robins said: "We haven't been able to play a settled side for some time.

"We have a group of willing and talented youngsters who have been asked to take an enormous step-up in the standard and style of rugby played.

"They are up against men who have often played at a far higher level and are physically bigger and, however good the spirit, there is obviously a great disadvantage."
