Stephenson was in fine form on the right wing for Bath
A Michael Stephenson hat-trick ensured Bath signed off their unsuccessful LV= Cup campaign with a victory over Sale.
Stephenson put the hosts in front after 90 seconds before tries from Matt Carraro and Peter Dixon.
Kristian Ormsby scored Sale's only try, but Butch James, making only his first appearance in 10 months, sent through Stephenson for his second score.
Bath extended their 28-7 half-time lead when Stephenson claimed his third and Jack Cuthbert rounded off the scoring.
Ryan Davis was in excellent kicking form, converting all five tries.
Bath fly-half Butch James returning after a 10-month injury lay-off:
"It's a lot easier for me when everyone wants to get their hands on the ball. I was happy with how it went, it all went very smoothly.
"Even if you are out for a long time you don't lose it. It's like riding a bike.
"I was quite keen for another 10 minutes but I was pretty tired."
