Saturday's Premiership game between Sale and Saracens has been postponed due to snow and freezing temperatures. Despite the use of pitch covers and heaters at Edgeley Park, there were concerns the stands and surrounding areas might be too dangerous for fans. With more snow expected Premier Rugby and the clubs agreed an early postponement would be the best option. "It is unlikely we would get a safety certificate for the match," added Premier Rugby's Phil Winstanley. "All parties have reluctantly agreed that under the circumstances and looking at the weather forecast, postponing the match now is the best option for supporters, players and administrators. "Snow and ice around Edgeley Park make it potentially too dangerous for spectators and presents significant concerns for access for the emergency services. "We will now work with all clubs to identify an appropriate date for the rearranged fixture," added Winstanley. "We are disappointed that the game won't take place, but have taken into account several issues," said Sale Sharks chief executive James Jennings. "Whilst we would have been able to grit walkways inside the stadium we were concerned for supporters having to walk on footpaths and cross roads near the stadium. "The amount of snow on top of the covers would also have caused a water problem when the heated covers were turned on and this may well have ruined the pitch for the remainder of the season for both Sale Sharks and Stockport County."
