Vickerman played in Cambridge's 2008 defeat by Oxford |
Former Australia second row Dan Vickerman, who won 55 caps for the Wallabies, will captain Cambridge in the 2009 Varsity Match at Twickenham. Ex-Leicester and London Irish fly-half Ross Broadfoot will also line up for Cambridge on 10 December as they seek to avenge last year's 33-29 defeat. "We've had some good preparation games. We're enjoying it and we're moving in the right direction," said Vickerman. The holders are captained by Dan Rosen, who is in his eighth year at Oxford. The Dark Blues also include Tim Catling, who scored a hat-trick last year. "To be captain is amazing, the pinnacle of my rugby career. I'm really excited and a little nervous," said Rosen. "The rivalry between Cambridge and us is pretty big. The Varsity match itself is a great match and a big occasion." The 2009 Varsity Match will take place at Twickenham next Tuesday, 10 December, with a 1400 GMT kick-off. The contest dates from 1872 and Cambridge lead the series 59-53, with 14 draws.
