Hull became England Saxon's assistant coach in January 2009

Bristol head coach Paul Hull has stepped down from his position as assistant coach to the England Saxons.

He took up the post with England's A side just 10 months ago and worked alongside head coach Stuart Lancaster.

"Last year I was assistant to Richard Hill and my time wasn't as manic as it is now," Hull told BBC Radio Bristol.

"With the Championship play-offs coming up at the end of the season it's a crucial time. I'm just very conscious of the work needed for Bristol."

"It was nice to be asked by Stuart and England to continue," added Hull.

"But I love my job here, it's a challenging season and I just want to be fully committed to the cause."

Hull took over at Bristol from Richard Hill in February 2009, overseeing their last eight games in the Premiership before being relegated.

Along with Lancaster, Hull helped guide the Saxons to a 66-0 victory against Portugal in the 2009 Six Nations before travelling to Denver in the United States for the Churchill Cup.

They beat Argentina Jaguars (28-20) and USA (56-17) on the way to the final where they lost to Ireland A.

And Hull has not ruled out a return to the England fold in the future.

"Every coach would aspire to coach at international level and I'm no different," he said.

"If ever I was offered the opportunity, I would definitely look to work with Stuart or any of the England coaches."
