May hails his 'tremendous' Camels

Rugby

Wadebridge Camels head coach John May said he was proud of his side after their 39-5 National Trophy defeat at Tynedale on Saturday.

Despite the five-division gulf between the sides in the English rugby pyramid, Wadebridge did not disgrace themselves.

"It was tremendous really, the boys put in as terrific effort," May told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"I can't say I'm disappointed. I think they'll be proud of themselves. They put everything into it."

May, whose side were the lowest-ranked left in the competition, added: "In the week we talked about our defence and not letting them through the centre of our defence.

"We stuck with that. They were a good enough side to get around our defence at times, but we never let them through the centre, which was one of our aims, so I'm happy with that."
