Key praise for four-try Goodridge

Jon Goodridge
Goodridge scored four of Leeds' eight tries against Moseley

Leeds Carnegie director of rugby Andy Key praised full-back Jon Goodridge as his four tries helped them to a 53-20 win over Moseley at Headingley.

The bonus-point win saw Leeds return to the top of National League One.

Key told BBC Radio Leeds: "It's probably been a long time coming - I'm sure he'll take huge confidence.

"I have known Jon on and off over the years and I have never been less than impressed with his game and what he can do on the park."

"I know last year with injuries and various other things he was a little bit out of form but since Neil [Back] and myself have been here he's been in form.

"He has been dogged a little bit with injury at the beginning and what's been really pleasing is that he's come back today and shown us what he can do.

"Some of the tries that he took were all about his ability to come into the line, ability to change pace, put his foot down and accelerate - all the sot of things that Jon can do, he's been able to put into his game today."

Goodridge's four-try haul came in only his third start of the season, taking his tally for the season to six.

The 27-year-old told BBC Radio Leeds: "I don't think I've done that since I was in the Under-12's so it doesn't come around too much but I was very happy to get it today.

"I think all of them were just walk-ins because of good work from the team - we try to play a 15-man game with props and second rows handling."

Apart from earning him the plaudits of his coach, Goodridge's four tries also saw him pick up the man of the match award.

Key was also delighted at returning to the top of National League One, having lost top spot to Exeter.

"Coming off the back of three tough games and having just missed out on the bonus point, we knew in the back of our minds that it was important not just to win today, but hopefully win well and obviously pick up the bonus point - which we have."
