The Barbarians got revenge for last year's 27-24 defeat |
The Barbarians gained revenge for last year's defeat by beating the Combined Services at the Brickfields Stadium in the Remembrance Day match on Tuesday. Vasco Uva had given the Baa-Baas the lead early on, but the Navy's Matt Rhodes hit back with a try of his own. Cornish Pirates' Rhodri McAtee got a second Baa-Baas try before Exeter Chiefs' Josh Drauniniu equalised. But the Barbarians ran in three more tries in the second half through Dougie Flockhart (two) and Chris Czekaj. Cornish Pirates fly-half Rhys Jones kicked two conversions for the Barbarians in the first half before he went off injured following a tough tackle from the Army's Apolosi Satala. Other south west players on show in front of the 2,000 fans were Exeter Chiefs duo Chris Budgen and Marshall Cormack for the Combined Services team, which was skippered by Redruth's Dave Pascoe. The Barbarians, who were coached by Exeter Chiefs captain Richie Baxter, also contained his Chiefs team-mates Richard Bolt and Brett Sturgess. They were joined by Plymouth Albion quintet Arthur Brenton, Will Neethling, Kyle Marriott, Danny Thomas and Ryan Hopkins.
