SOUTH AFRICA v NEW ZEALAND Venue: Newlands, Cape Town Date: Saturday, 16 August Kick-off: 1405 BST Coverage: BBC Sport website Montgomery scored 12 points in the 2007 World Cup final |
Full-back Percy Montgomery will become the first South African to win 100 Test caps when he lines up against New Zealand in the Tri-Nations on Saturday. The 34-year-old takes the place of Conrad Jantjes in the starting XV. Andries Bekker plays in the second row in place of the injured Bakkies Botha, who will miss the rest of the series. Bryan Habana, Schalk Burger and Fourie du Preez return after missing the one-off game with Argentina, while Francois Steyn starts on the bench. Montgomery, South Africa's all-time record points scorer with 880, made his Test debut back in 1997 against the Lions. He joins an exclusive list of only eight other players - George Gregan, jason Leonard, Fabien Pelous, Philippe Sella, Gareth Thomas, Stephen larkham, David Campese and Alessandro Troncon - to have reached three figures.
 | 606: DEBATE | "I don't think it could happen to a greater rugby player," said South Africa coach Peter de Villiers. "The professional player that he is now and the experience he brings to the side is extraordinary. Even when he's not playing, he's the same player and the same character. "This week is going to be huge for him, but Percy knows that the job is more important than the milestone." The All Blacks will be looking for revenge on South Africa after they ended New Zealand's 30-match unbeaten home record when the teams met for the first time in this year's tournament back in July. South Africa: Montgomery; Pietersen, Jacobs, de Villiers, Habana; James, du Preez; Mtawarira, du Plessis, van der Linde, Bekker, Matfield (capt), Burger, Smith, Spies. Replacements: Strauss, Mujati, Rossouw, Watson, Januarie, Steyn, Jantjes.
