North Midlands missed their chance to return to the top flight of the County Championship as they were well beaten 29-5 by Northumberland at Tynedale. Despite a second-minute try from Stourbridge winger Greg Summers, North Mids were unable to subdue a strong Tynedale-influenced side. And the Northumbrians opened up a decisive 22-5 lead by the interval. They now go through to the Shield final at Twickenham on 1 June and will play in next year's Bill Beaumont Cup.
